SUNDAY 14th MARCH
Lillypool cafe must have read my last blog, because they were open nice and early and served up a lovely poached eggs on toast.Very well done make sure you keep it up or else!!!!.The journey down to landsend was bit of a quiet one cuz I was knackered as I awoke at 3am,dont ask me why I just couldnt sleep so dragged my sorry ass out of bed and tied some rigs and hooklengths whilst watching the mighty JOHN WILSON on discovery shed,or was it -MATURE AND GAGGING-on television x hhhmmmmm cant remember.
At landend I managed to get to my favourite position at the front of the draw queue
but did my self no favours by pulling out peg 50 on number 3 lake,to say I was devastated was an understatement as 50 and 46 are the two worst pegs in the section.
I tried to keep my moral up and the only thing doing so was having had the same peg in the summer when I had 80lb off it,but could only catch down the edge which today was highly unlikely as it was cold and clear, finger crossed.
for company I had Tony the drawbag ricko on 42(absolute flyer),Andy cant draw to save his life France on 46 (shithole),Matty shrimpdog tomes on 51(always worth a few)
and Ken spawny bollox Rayner on 55(flyer in the bay of biscay).
With a strong wind from left to right and 4 ft of water in the deepest area I set up 3 rigs,a 4x14 for the deep water down the track,a 4x12 for down my r/hand edge in 2.5ft of water and a 4x12 for the island at 14.5 m.
At the start I cupped in a small amount of micro pellet, casters and corn on all lines and started down the track.Fifteen minutes went by before I had a liner then a proper bite on the soft pellet which turned out to be a 5lb carp what a great start,or so I thought.Matty to my left on 51 was catching skimmers and the odd carp on banded pellet, ricko on 42 was catching silvers and carp on the corn and caster and even Andy on the shithole peg 46 was having a few carp but I could not buy a bite on anything.Going long to my right down the track I set up a new line and had a response straight away in the shape of a 3lb bream which decided to come off about
2m from the net,not so great start. That line died aswell so it was time to try the edge, not a bean it was getting worst buy the second so I tried the across lines and had a few small skimmers on banded pellet but could not put a run of fish together and things just went from bad to badder.Im not going to bore you with the rest cuz it was dogshit but I did have a good laugh which perked things up a bit,and how could I not laugh when everytime I looked to my left I thought it was les williams aka chubhead only for it to be his long lost son Shrimpead on peg 51.
Just a quicky, Nicholas collier did well to get 5 points off peg 1 and is still leading the pack by 3 points over 2nd placed vince shipp,oh yeah nearly forgot to mention Mike Nichols dyin fly over the otter wires and head first into a bush, stupid old twat Im sure they do free eye test for people his age.
In hindsight I suppose I should have stayed at home and watched the rest of John Wilson with me pants around my ankles sorry I mean with a nice warm cup of coffee in my hand.

ReplyDeleteMade me feel a lot better reading this Anton, as I had peg 50 in the previous round which I fished as an open. One 5lb carp was my lot.
ReplyDeletewhat i cant understand tim is why they catch on 51 and not 50,but i suppose thats fishin and thats why we go.
ReplyDeleteits getting boring now cos you dont keep it up to date, chuck the brat off the pc and do your blog
