LANDSEND INDIVIDUAL LEAGUE 7th ROUND

SUNDAY 14th MARCH

Lillypool cafe must have read my last blog, because they were open nice and early and served up a lovely poached eggs on toast.Very well done make sure you keep it up or else!!!!.The journey down to landsend was bit of a quiet one cuz I was knackered as I awoke at 3am,dont ask me why I just couldnt sleep so dragged my sorry ass out of bed and tied some rigs and hooklengths whilst watching the mighty JOHN WILSON on discovery shed,or was it -MATURE AND GAGGING-on television x hhhmmmmm cant remember.

At landend I managed to get to my favourite position at the front of the draw queue
but did my self no favours by pulling out peg 50 on number 3 lake,to say I was devastated was an understatement as 50 and 46 are the two worst pegs in the section.
I tried to keep my moral up and the only thing doing so was having had the same peg in the summer when I had 80lb off it,but could only catch down the edge which today was highly unlikely as it was cold and clear, finger crossed.
for company I had Tony the drawbag ricko on 42(absolute flyer),Andy cant draw to save his life France on 46 (shithole),Matty shrimpdog tomes on 51(always worth a few)
and Ken spawny bollox Rayner on 55(flyer in the bay of biscay).
With a strong wind from left to right and 4 ft of water in the deepest area I set up 3 rigs,a 4x14 for the deep water down the track,a 4x12 for down my r/hand edge in 2.5ft of water and a 4x12 for the island at 14.5 m.
At the start I cupped in a small amount of micro pellet, casters and corn on all lines and started down the track.Fifteen minutes went by before I had a liner then a proper bite on the soft pellet which turned out to be a 5lb carp what a great start,or so I thought.Matty to my left on 51 was catching skimmers and the odd carp on banded pellet, ricko on 42 was catching silvers and carp on the corn and caster and even Andy on the shithole peg 46 was having a few carp but I could not buy a bite on anything.Going long to my right down the track I set up a new line and had a response straight away in the shape of a 3lb bream which decided to come off about
2m from the net,not so great start. That line died aswell so it was time to try the edge, not a bean it was getting worst buy the second so I tried the across lines and had a few small skimmers on banded pellet but could not put a run of fish together and things just went from bad to badder.Im not going to bore you with the rest cuz it was dogshit but I did have a good laugh which perked things up a bit,and how could I not laugh when everytime I looked to my left I thought it was les williams aka chubhead only for it to be his long lost son Shrimpead on peg 51.
Just a quicky, Nicholas collier did well to get 5 points off peg 1 and is still leading the pack by 3 points over 2nd placed vince shipp,oh yeah nearly forgot to mention Mike Nichols dyin fly over the otter wires and head first into a bush, stupid old twat Im sure they do free eye test for people his age.
In hindsight I suppose I should have stayed at home and watched the rest of John Wilson with me pants around my ankles sorry I mean with a nice warm cup of coffee in my hand.

LANDSEND INDIVIDUAL WINTERLEAGUE 6th ROUND

SUNDAY 6 MARCH 2010

With a 6 am start to the morning and awaiting the arrival of Matty-TWO PERCH FOR TWELVE POUND-Tomes I was felling quite optomistic about the day ahead.Shrimpead soon turned up and it was off to pick up Nick-BLINKY BLINKER-Collier who really needs to remove his eyes and wring them out properly.Off to the cafe and it was total devastation when we arrived as it was closed, for what reason nobody knows but it better be a F##kin good one,so it was back to the garage for a sausage and bacon baguette with the added bonus of a burn up at churchill lights with the one and only Dave-HAMILTON-Hodgeson who took the honours with a very dangerous but very professional maneuvre learnt from the SCOUSE car jackin and joyriding days.
On to the GO-KART-TRACK sorry I meant Landsend, only joking mikey put that tarmac on hold.
In the carpark I was to busy sorting out my kit to realise that there was a queue forming for the draw so the kit was dumped and I made a b-line for the front with a bit of ducking and weaving only a pro-boxer would be proud of and I was in.In went my pools and out came unlucky for some peg 13 yippeee my favourite winter peg on the complex. With the usual bitter and twisted comments out the way I made my way down to peg 13 and sat staring into the gin clear water with a freezing easterly wind blowing from right to left and bright sunshine, not a good recipe for a good days fishin.Knowing the potential of the peg I decided to go all out for a lake and section win, although I was up against it as 16 and 19 have been showing much more form and made up just two rigs.
RIG 1- A 4X16 J-RANGE WIRE STEMMED FLOAT TO 0.14 M/L TO A 0.12 H/L AND A SIZE 16 TUBERTINI 808 TO FISH CORN AND PELLET @ 14.5M @ 2 OCLOCK IN 7FT OF WATER.
RIG 2- A 4X14 FLOAT TO 0.14 M/L TO A 0.12 H/L AND AGAIN A 16 808 TO FISH CASTER TO THE R/H PALLET AND DEAD MAGGOT 14.5 M UP THE L/H EDGE BOTH IN 4.5FT OF WATER.

At the all in I cupped in a full kinder pot of micro,4mm and caster into the deep water,a half pot of caster to the pallet and a full pot of micro and dead maggot
14.5m up the l/h edge.As I had a liner by the pallet when plumbing up i decided to start here to see if I could pick up an early mug fish, but 20 minutes later I was biteless so opted to try the deep line.On went a piece of corn shipped out and dropped my rig straight down,,the wind was pretty strong so I put a no8 backshot above the float and laid about 3 to 4 inches of line on the deck to hold everthing still and 10 minutes later the float slid away and the strike was met with a solid resistance-what a lovely feeling.A few minutes and a spirited fight later 6 pound of mirror carp was led in the landing net pheeewww at least I was off the mark.By this time Ken Rayner on peg 16 had already hooked 3 carp down by the tree to his left but only managed to get 1 out thank god.Next put in with just my corn hookbait and no more feed I had to wait about 10 minutes to get my next bite resulting in a 5 pound common carp which fought like a fish twice its size, unbelievable when you consider the the water was just 5 degrees. In went some more micro,4mm and caster along with the rig and had a few liners straight after feeding so I tried the shallower rig over the deep line to no avail.Back with the deep rig and another bite after a wait of about 20 mins and another carp was netted.Great 3 carp in the first 2 hours with talk of it fishin extremely hard, and my only real worry was Ken who I thought I was just ahead of at this stage.
With no more bites forthcoming on the deep line I refed and went back down to the pallet where id been occasionally feeding caster in the hope of hooking anything,I really did persavere with this line but could just not make it work and after 30 mins it was time to move.Time to try my 3rd line up the l/h edge.Baiting up with a red and white dead maggot I shipped out to 14.5m and laid my rig into the gap between the branches and the cage, the sun was making it difficult to see the float so when it moved sideways I thought I was seeing things only for it to slide slowly away and carp no4 was on and played very gingerly to the net.I made a few moves between the other lines with no indications and it wasnt until the 4.5 hour mark that I had my next bite up the l/h edge again on the maggot,it was just a case of rotating lines and hoping that something had moved over the feed.A move back to the deep water and corn resulted in my biggest fish of the day and @ about 7 pounds was very welcome and much needed as Ken was still geeting a few bites.I had my 7th and last carp up the l/h edge again on maggot with 25 mins to go but never had another touch,so at the all out it was me-7 carp-0.I knew that Ken was close to me as his fewer carp were slightly bigger than mine and he also had a few silvers to go with the carp.I weighed first and put 33lb-9oz on the scales,Kens fish went 32lb-11oz so as Gordon Ramsay would say-- section win-DONE! lake win-DONE!.Nick on specimen peg 33 done the biz again and cant do no wrong at the moment with 6 section wins and a 2nd in section and extending his lead further-fairplay mate.Matty-TWO ROACH-Tomes came back with 4 points from peg 1 on match lake which is a very good result judging by the poor form that peg 1s been showing lately. Its such a good result that it might just get him into our reserves teams of 4 for this year.

Landsend saturday deathwish open.

SATURDAY 28th FEBUARY 2010

Breakfast at lillypool cafe 2 poached eggs on toast with two well done bacon mmmmm followed by a quality nobble with Scouse,Shrimpead, nicky and Victor meldrew (A Oram) all chattin s**t as usuall then onto landsend in the bluebus. With myself, shimpead and nicky travelling together the topic of conversation never differs as someone always gets the piss ripped into them and this time it was my turn. NICK"What if we crashed now doin this speed,we'd disintergrate SHRIMPEAD "yeah they'd only be able to recognise us via dental records,it would sound something like this. two white males between 30 and 35 and a SHIRE HORSE,very quick shrimpdog I'll give you that one.
At the fishery there were 15 booked in so one bank of specimen 33 to 40 and the rest on match lake. Is it me or is Mike Duckett lookin more and more like Charles Bronson what with the moustache and tinted bins, (lookin good Miseur duquet)or maybe its magnum P.I ahh what ever it defo looks better than whe he had that ginger mop.
Ive been struggling a bit of late in the drawbag so was surprised to pull peg 33 in the corner of speci, not that its a flyer or anything lol. For company I had the silver supremo on 34 who blagged a few rigs, dont look like I'll ever get them back.
Only 2 rigs todays as at the moment its an out and out carp peg, first one a 4x14 float on 0.14 to a 18 xedion hook for the deep water at 16m on the corn and pellet @ 12 and 2 o'clock and the second a 4x12 float on 0.14 to a 18 B911 for fishing soft and banded pellet up the shelf to my left in 3ft of water @ 14.5 and 16m.
At the all in I put in half a drennan 150mm pot of micro & corn @ 16m twelve oclock, and the same amount of 4mm pellet and corn @ 16m two oclock, I also catapulted 4mm pellets up the left hand edge for later. Just to point out nobody was on the opposite bank and past experience told me and Nick that things could be a little bit slow as the fish have somewhere to back off too. Out at 16m on the corn and I was getting a few indications but put this down to roach and after 20 mins myself and Nick were still fishless. On the half hour mark I had a liner then a proper bite and carp number 1 was in the net,I refed this line with a kinder pot and moved to the 2 oclock line and caught an f1 straight away. I repeated the kinder potting process over the 2 deep lines and manage to keep odd carp and silvers coming while still catapulting 4mls over my left hand margin.Nick on 34 up till this point didnt even have a sniff of a carp and was struggling so changed tactics and started picking up a few decent perch long on the caster where he inevitably trashed two of the rigs I give him on the bush opposite so no I wont be gettin them back. At the halfway stage Id got 2 carp, 2 f1s,1 chub and a couple of skimmers and thought a look up the left hand edge was in order where id been flicking 4mls. On went a soft pellet and first put in I lost a carp so in again and nothing so decided to keep pinging pellets there and go back on the deep lines. It was confirmed, the fish had backed off into pegs 32 and 31 opposite as you could see them rolling there so it was gonna be a case of nicking a few here and there. On with a soft pellet this time @ 16m and a 1.5lb skimmer followed by a 2.5 pounder and a 5lb carp, cracked it I thought only for the fish to back off again. 2 hours to go and another look down the L/H margin with banded 6mm this time, the float buried and carp number 4 was in the net. Continuing to catapult 4mls down the edge I managed another 2 before it died and reverted back to the deep lines.
By this stage Nicholas had thrown approximately 5 proper tantrums after having a nightmare start but was starting to sort his s**t out and was catching roach and a few better fish @ 5m on the caster. The 2 oclock line had completely died so it was back on the corn at 12 oclock where I had 2 carp in two putins then nothin again.A move back down the edge bought 1 more carp before the all out,so a total of 9 carp and approx 15lb of silvers, much needed after how Ive been drawing and fishing lately.Matty Tomes on Peg 19 (most consistent peg all season) was again beat by his nemasis Martin lenaghon on peg 16 (most consistent winter peg ) by a mear pound, you'll get him one day shrimpdog millionair you mark my words.
